Kwasind Summer 2020 Updates

We love camp – we have and we always will!  However, it was announced on May 19th, that the Ontario government, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, has suspend all overnight summer camps from operating during the 2020 summer.  We, along with many campers, families and summer staff are deeply saddened of the reality that for the first time in 75 years, we will not be having campers on property hearing about Jesus, building friendships, sharing laughs, enjoying campfire and making memories.  We also know that that while the decision to close camps is a heart-breaking and difficult one, it was also the right decision due to all the uncertainty and challenges related to COVID-19.

We have created this page to keep the Camp Kwasind community updated as to what is going to be happening, responding to frequently asked questions and as a place to under the impact this is having on camp at this time.

Summer 2020 Update Letter   Letter to Camper Families

With camp cancelled for 2020 - what happens to my payments and do I need to do anything?

You should have received an email with the instructions  below and a link to select an option of how you want your payments directed or refunded.

As we have shared over the last eight weeks, Kwasind is committed to providing a full refund on deposits and payments made for summer 2020. Based on feedback from parents, we are also offering two other options regarding payments you have already made. Please select your desired option by following the link below.

Option #1: Full Refund – You will receive a full refund of all deposits and payments that you have made towards enrollment in a summer 2020 program with no amount held back for administrative fees. We will do our best to expedite your request. Please recognize it may take 30-60 days to process refunds.

Option #2: Rollover payment to book a spot for next summer – We will forward all deposits and payments that you have made as a credit on your account for 2021 camper weeks, specialty camps or for Celebration Weekend. As an added bonus, this will not only ensure you have a spot in our EPIC Summer 2021 programs, you will also receive our 2019 rates! This option helps stabilize Camp Kwasind’s yearly operating financial position and meet short-term cash flow needs. If your financial situation changes and you would prefer to request a full refund, you can do so through October 31, 2020.

Option #3: Donation – With the suspending of camp programs, we have a significant loss in operational revenue while still having many fixed operational costs and plans for upgrades to camp that now need financial donations. This option will allow you to transfer a portion of your refund into a tax deductible donation. The remainder of your payment will be refunded to you or rolled over into credit for saving a spot for your child(ren) for summer 2021 at the 2019 rate.

NOTE: Please email to get the link to fill out the form to request how you want your payment directed

Do you have any tips on how to tell my kids camp is cancelled?

For parents who are sharing with your kids that camp at Kwasind has been suspended for the summer, it is not going to be easy. There is no way around this – sharing this information with your kids can be heart-wrenching and upsetting. What I do know is that it is important that we extend empathy and understand that each child will have different needs to which we will need to respond. Show them that you are with them during this time and try to make different times to talk about it, grieve about it and share the positive stories of camp.

What is happening with the LIT Program?

The LIT Program will be the only program this summer that will make a shift to an online experience and potentially be extended into the fall with revamped elements related to leadership trainings, faith development and team building.

We are in the early stages of redeveloping this program and will be connecting with LITs and parents to see what would be the most beneficial and valuable elements the be incorporated into a renewed LIT program for the 2020 Summer.  We are hoping that we would also be able to have face-to-face gatherings and a retreat in the fall at camp – if it is safe and supported by the government. More details will be shared in the coming weeks in regard to LIT 2020.

Is there anything planned to keep my kid(s) connected to Kwasind this summer?

We have just shifted gears from planning for Kwasind at Camp to now thinking creatively for how we can provide elements of Kwasind @ Home. We are not going to be running a “virtual camp” program that you have register for, but we are going to be providing online camp resources, activities, videos and other memorable experiences that you will have the option to access to help you child stay connected to the Kwasind experience as we get excited for an EPIC 2021 Summer!

Stay posted for more details about what we will be happening and made available throughout the summer!

How can I support Camp Kwasind

Camp Kwasind is blessed to have a great legacy of people who care about Kwasind now and into the future.  Here are a few ways you can be of support to Kwasind at this time as COVID-19 is having a huge impact on camp.  With the cancellation of camp it means we have no operational revenue from our spring or summer and potentially fall and well we have strategically been positioning ourselves to whether an economic down turn, we did not anticipate a world-wide pandemic. We need to support to care for our staff and campers and their well being and also for our ability to continue to grow Kwasind into the future.

  1. PRAYER: We ask you to pray for the camp, the stop of the virus, the many health workers and frontline workers and for the mental health challenges that many of our staff and campers will be wrestling with as they have been in isolation and their world turned upside down.
  2. DONATE: As we look to build for an EPIC 2021 Summer, cover our many fixed expenses and build for the future, this is the time that we are needing those who are able to financial support camp by making a tax-deductible donation or by becoming a monthly donor to ensure we have a stead flow of revenue through out the year.
